Cotribute, a digital growth platform for credit unions and banks, today announced business account opening results from credit unions running Corelation KeyStone. Three in four applicants who start an application complete it, 82% of applications that reach a final decision are approved, and automated rules handle 45% of all decision steps before staff review.
Business members are among the most valuable relationships a credit union can hold, yet most institutions still send them to a branch to open an account. Only 17% of institutions in Cornerstone Advisors’ 2026 business-banking benchmark offer digital business account opening. Where online applications exist, they are long, requiring entity details, beneficial owners, authorized signers, and supporting documents, and they are often followed by days of manual verification.
Cotribute’s results show that a long application does not have to cost the credit union a completed one. Of the business applicants who began an application, 74% submitted it. Of the applications that reached a final decision, 82% were approved; the rest were declined or withdrawn, including applications stopped by fraud, ChexSystems, and identity checks. Automated rules made 45% of all decision steps, covering Secretary of State business verification, know-your-business (KYB) checks, OFAC and watchlist screening, identity verification, and fraud scoring, which leaves staff review for the applications that need human judgment.
“Business members are some of the most valuable relationships a credit union has, and they have the least patience for paperwork,” said Philip Paul, CEO of Cotribute. “When nearly three out of four business owners finish an application and almost half of the decision work happens automatically, credit union staff can spend their time on relationships instead of data entry. Because Cotribute runs directly on KeyStone, that work lands in the core without rekeying.”
“Cotribute has helped us rethink the way we approach business account opening at Valley Credit Union,” said Joe Olivo, Chief Experience Officer, Valley Credit Union. “By simplifying a traditionally complex process, we’ve been able to reduce friction for our business members while creating a more efficient and consistent experience for our employees. It’s a great example of how the right technology can improve operational efficiency without sacrificing the personal service that makes credit unions different.”
How It Works on Corelation KeyStone
Cotribute’s business account opening runs online and in-branch, for multi-owner businesses and sole proprietors. Applications flow through one automated workflow:
1. The applicant enters business and owner details once, with beneficial ownership and authorized signers captured in the same session.
2. Automated checks run in parallel: Secretary of State registration, KYB, OFAC and watchlist screening, identity verification, ChexSystems and fraud scoring.
3. Rules approve, decline or route each application to staff review, based on thresholds the credit union sets.
4. Approved accounts are created in KeyStone through Cotribute’s direct integration, with no rekeying.
“Business owners need banking solutions that work around their schedules, not the other way around. By offering a fully digital account opening experience through Cotribute, we’re simplifying the process from start to finish, including ownership verification, documentation, and signatures,” said Jessica Rendelman, Director of Business Banking, Credit Union 1. “With a seamless integration into KeyStone, we’re creating a more efficient experience for both our business members and our internal teams.”
The credit union clients’ results come ahead of the Corelation Executive Forum, October 21–23, where Cotribute is a sponsor and will demonstrate its platform for credit union executives. Credit union leaders who want to see business account opening on KeyStone can request a demo at cotribute.com.
